What Hydrawise Is
Hydrawise is Hunter’s cloud platform for running an irrigation system over Wi-Fi. A Hydrawise controller connects to your home or site internet, and you program it from your phone or a web browser instead of standing at the box.
The part that matters is what it does on its own. Hydrawise pulls forecast and observed weather from local stations and adjusts your run times before each cycle — shorter after rain, longer through a hot dry week. You set the schedule once and it varies itself from then on.
There’s no subscription for home use. The app and the basic account are free.

What Hydrawise Actually Saves You
- Watering that responds to the weather. Predictive Watering adjusts run times from forecast rainfall, temperature, wind and humidity, so the system isn’t watering the day after a downpour.
- Restrictions handled. Set your allowed watering days and times once and the controller stays inside them while still adjusting duration.
- You can see it from anywhere. Check whether a zone ran, start a manual cycle, or shut the system down from your phone — useful on a rental, a second property, or while you’re away.
- Fault alerts. With a flow meter fitted, the controller tells you when a zone’s flow doesn’t match what it should be — a broken head, a split line, or a valve that hasn’t closed.
Which Controllers Run Hydrawise
Four of Hunter’s controllers work with the platform:
- X2 with the WAND module — the standard X2 is a dial-programmed timer. Plug in the WAND and it joins Hydrawise. This is the cheapest way onto the platform, and the only one you can add later to a controller you already own.
- Pro-HC — Wi-Fi built in, 6, 12 and 24 station outdoor models. The straightforward choice for a new residential install.
- HCC — modular, expands from 8 to 54 stations. Large properties and commercial sites.
- HPC — the Hydrawise facepack for an ICC2 cabinet, for high station counts.
For specifications, station counts and prices across the full controller range, see Hunter irrigation controllers.
Already Have an X2? Add the WAND
If there’s an X2 on the wall already, you don’t need a new controller. The WAND module plugs into the port on the front of the X2 and connects it to your Wi-Fi. Programming moves to the app, and the controller keeps running its schedule whether or not the internet is up.
Flow Meters — Where Hydrawise Earns Its Keep
A controller that only follows a schedule can’t tell you a head has snapped off. Add an HC Flow Meter and Hydrawise learns what each zone should draw, then flags it when the flow doesn’t match — high flow means a break, low flow means a blockage or a valve that isn’t opening.
On a property where a fault could run unnoticed for weeks, that’s the feature that pays for the system.
What You Need To Get Started
- A Hydrawise-capable controller, or an existing X2 plus a WAND module
- Wi-Fi reaching where the controller is mounted — worth checking before you buy, since controllers usually live in a garage or on an outside wall
- A free Hydrawise account, set up in the app
That’s it. No subscription, no hub, no separate gateway.
